Lots are tested by the methods listed on the certificate of analysis. These methods may include:
High performance liquid chromatography (HPLC): This is a broad analytical chemistry technique used to separate compounds in a chemical mixture. This instrumentation is utilized to determine the potency of nicotinamide riboside chloride in Tru Niagen products in conjunction with the capsule or stick pack uniformity test. HPLC is also utilized for additional active ingredients in certain ChromaDex products, such as Tru Niagen Immune.
Capsule Uniformity of Weight (USP <2091>): This test verifies that a sample of capsules from a lot have consistent weight according to USP requirements. Additionally, this test determines the average capsule weight used in combination with HPLC for potency confirmation. Stick packs are verified with a similar uniformity test.
Microbial: Lots are tested for the absence of microbial contamination according to established specifications for the product.
Heavy Metals: Lots are tested for the absence of heavy metal contamination according to established specifications for the product.
Additional methods: Some products or lots may be tested by additional methods including:
- Certified for Sport NSF 306: Assurance that the lot is free from performance enhancing banned substances.
- Ultra Performance Liquid Chromatography (UPLC): Similar to HPLC, used to verify the potency of certain active ingredients.
- Liquid chromatography–mass spectrometry (LC-MS): A technique that combines the separation capabilities of HPLC with the mass analysis capabilities of mass spectrometry (MS). ChromaDex utilizes LC-MS to verify the potency of certain active ingredients.
- Inductively Coupled Plasma Optical Emission spectroscopy (ICP-ES): An analytical technique used to determine the amount of certain elements in a sample. ChromaDex utilizes ICP-ES to determine the potency of minerals, such as zinc, in certain products.
